Dale Brown Interview With: Peter Anthony Holder
When a former pilot turns his hand to thrillers you can take their authenticity
for granted. His writing is exceptional and the dialogue, plots and characters
are first-class... far too good to be missed.'

[MEGAFORTRESS.COM image] I just finished an appearance at BookMania 2008, the chief fundraiser for the Library Foundation of Martin County, which supports the county's public libraries. The weather is spectacular--the residents tell me it's a little cool, but I'll never complain about 70 deg. and partly cloudy in January!

I did a panel discussion entitled "Into The Wild Blue Yonder" with Air Force Reserve Major and author Kim Ponder and with Jay Barbree, the 50+year veteran space reporter for NBC News. I grew up watching Jay "Live from Cape Canaveral" and was very excited to be sitting beside him on the panel. Kim's perspective was as a female aviator (an E-3C AWACS radar weapons controller) serving in Desert Storm working closely with fighter pilots when there were almost no women serving in a combat zone.

The event was spectacular. Susan Opasik took great care of us authors and maintained excellent communications throughout. My escorts for last evening's kickoff event were Ron and Jo Vent, who were gracious and attentive and instroduced me to many of the event's directors and benefactors. The Library Foundation vowed to continue holding BookMania even in the face of threatened cuts in county support--that showed the dedication of the folks involved in the Foundation and in the community. I hope they invite me back.

I was also impressed with Stuart, Florida as well. The area is surprisingly conservative Republicans, even the recently relocated folks from New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. They asked tough questions; they generally support the military but had questions about the military mission and future in Iraq; and they were generous and welcoming. I felt right at home.
