Dale Brown Interview With: Peter Anthony Holder
When a former pilot turns his hand to thrillers you can take their authenticity
for granted. His writing is exceptional and the dialogue, plots and characters
are first-class... far too good to be missed.'

[MEGAFORTRESS.COM image] My Webmaster Bill Parker of Parker Information Resources subtlely reminded me of my New Year's resolution to blog daily, and that I have been remiss.

The problem is that once I get down to work--in this case, on book #21--not much else happens. That's especially true now since I don't have a plane waiting to be flown weekly. I've been looking at planes online, as I always do even if I already have one, but nothing really sparks my interest.

I have to admit that all this talk of recession affects my desire to get a plane. But it's not just fears of tight money and rising prices: a recession might mean lower interest rates and lower prices of planes by sellers wanting to get out from underneath a big expense like a plane, so there might be bargain opportunities out there this winter.

But what I really want to do is crank hard on book #21 and get it done by June so I have some downtime to spend with my family during Lake Tahoe's spectacular summers. It hasn't happened yet, but that's my goal.

I am going to flight training next weekend to get my Biennial Flight Review and Instrument Competency Check completed. The Flight Review is required for private and commercial pilots every two years, regardless of how much flying you do. The ICC is not required if you accomplish a certain number of instrument procedures every 6 months, but it's always a good idea to do it formally every now and then even if you fly often enough.

I'm also riding the Gold Wing trike a lot this winter. The photo above was taken just before I took my son to enrichment classes at Lake Tahoe School. Yes, that's a hill of snow behind it, about ten feet high. We didn't get any snow this past week, and the temps have actually been warm enough to cause some pretty spectacular BANGS! as huge chunks of ice fall from the roof.

Next week the snow is supposed to return, but I'll be in Florida, locked away in a classroom and Cessna C-340A simulator. I'll probably return to more snow--hopefully we won't have a repeat of the 90-minute drive from Reno to Tahoe across the Mount Rose summit in a blinding snowstorm again. We'll see.
