The new U.S. Space Defense Force under Lieutenant-General Patrick McLanahan is a success--too successful for Russian president Leonid Zevitin. He and his top generals devise a plan to force newly elected U.S. president Joseph Gardner to shut down America's space forces in the interest of world peace and stability. Faced with a dangerous array of Russian anti-satellite weapons, the collapse of a pro-Western government in Iran, and political pressure against him at home, McLanahan is forced to do the unthinkable: defy his commander-in-chief and wage war against his comrades-in-arms in order to save the fledgling democracy in Iran and keep his forces safe from Russian attacks.
